LIVE REVIEWS

"The magic of Moana and the Tribe….more than 10.000 attended….up first were Moana & the Tribe, with an excellent and wild fusion of music, dance, singing, rhythms and haka-dancers. They sang melodic traditional songs from their country, which were translated by one of the organizers. The musicians were excellent, the backing vocalists harmonious rounding out a very innovative band that had younger members of the audience surging nearer, fascinated."
P.B, Ideal, Espana, 2004

"The current crop of over-sanitized, easy-listening elevator music masquerading as Polynesian is fully exposed as all sugar and no substance when it’s stacked next to Moana & the Tribe. Led by singer and Maori activist Moana Maniapoto, the N.Z band staged a stirring and entertaining performance at Munich’s Lustspielhaus on Monday night, successfully fusing vocal harmonies, dance and video with infectious playing. If ever world music is to be convincing, then this is it – a multi-talented band creating a small cultural cosmos representing their continent with self-confidence, passion and espirit…"
G.R, Süddeutsche Zeitung München, 2004

"Moana creates tremors at the Cultural centre. Moana & the Tribe captivated the audience with their enchanting voices and performance. Moana walked onto the stage to a raptuous ovation from the audience."
Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes, 10 March 2007

"A must-see, so much to listen to and see. Astonishing, I was blown away…"
Daily News Forum, Vladivostok (Russia), 2007

"The audience was mesmerized by… the stunning harmonies of Moana’s sister Trina Maniapoto and Amiria Reriti blended seamlessly on songs like “Hine Te Iwa Iwa, Calling You, Timor”….and international award-winning songs like “Moko”. The audience were privy to Moana the captivating storyteller, peace advocate, rebel supporter and consummate performer"
Bay of Plenty Times, Tauranga, October 2007

"The absolute highlight of the Bardentreffen Festival 2002!"
Nuernberger Nachrichten, 2002

"The audience was captured by this fantastic journey through the Maori world, and even after the encore, refused to let Moana & the Tribe leave the stage."
Frankfurter Neue Presse

"Moana led her group through an intelligent, entertaining and thought provoking amalgam of haka and waiata. And with a serving of pop-soul. Her shoulda-been-hits ‘Ancestors’ and ‘Warriors’ were high points of a set that was persuasive on every level and set the tone for a concert when an open minded audience was prepared to think, then dance in the aisles."
N.Z Herald (2004)
